The Journey

Where the cliffs meet the sea

Krabi is Thailand at its most dramatic โ€” towering limestone karsts rising straight out of turquoise water, hidden lagoons accessible only by climbing through caves, and beaches so perfect they hardly look real. This three-day route covers Railay's car-free peninsula, a classic island-hopping day across the Andaman Sea, and a final day inland to swim in jungle pools and climb to clifftop temples. Bring sunscreen, leave the heels at home โ€” this is the good stuff.

๐ŸŒก Best time: November โ€“ April (dry season)
๐Ÿ›ถ Longtail boats between beaches
๐Ÿจ Stay on Railay or in Ao Nang

Day 1

Railay Beach
STOP 1
Beach

Railay Beach

One of Thailand's most iconic beaches โ€” only reachable by longtail boat. Towering limestone cliffs frame soft white sand and warm turquoise water. The whole peninsula has no roads and feels like a tropical paradise frozen in time.

๐Ÿ’ก Insider tip: Take a longtail boat from Ao Nang pier (~200 baht). Stay overnight on Railay if you can โ€” it transforms when the day-trippers leave.
Phra Nang Cave Beach
STOP 2
Beach

Phra Nang Cave Beach

Often ranked one of the most beautiful beaches in the world. Sheltered by a massive limestone overhang and lined by a hidden cave, with calm turquoise shallows perfect for swimming. Watch climbers scaling the cliffs above as you float.

๐Ÿ’ก Insider tip: Walk over from Railay East Beach in 5 minutes โ€” there's a small jungle path. Visit early morning or late afternoon to avoid the cruise boat crowds.
Railay Viewpoint
STOP 3
Viewpoint

Railay Viewpoint

A short but steep jungle scramble that rewards you with the best panoramic view of Railay's twin beaches and the Andaman Sea. Limestone cliffs stretch in every direction โ€” pure jaw-on-the-floor stuff.

๐Ÿ’ก Insider tip: It's a steep, muddy climb with ropes โ€” wear proper shoes and bring water. About 15-20 minutes up. Skip it if it's been raining recently.
Railay Lagoon
STOP 4
Nature

Railay Lagoon

A hidden emerald-green lagoon sealed off by towering cliffs, accessed by an adventurous descent through a steep muddy crevice. When the tide is right, the water is an unbelievable jade color. A real Indiana Jones moment.

๐Ÿ’ก Insider tip: Continue on from the viewpoint trail โ€” it's another 15 minutes down. Only worth it at high tide. Don't bring anything you can't get muddy.

Day 2

Chicken Island
STOP 1
Island

Chicken Island

Named for its iconic chicken-head-shaped limestone cliff jutting out of the sea. Surrounded by some of the best snorkeling around Krabi โ€” colorful reef fish, clear warm water and vibrant coral right off the beach.

๐Ÿ’ก Insider tip: Bring underwater camera and reef shoes. The east side of the island has the best snorkeling.
Tup Island (Talay Waek)
STOP 2
Island

Tup Island (Talay Waek)

At low tide, a magical sandbar appears connecting three tiny islands โ€” Tup, Mor and Chicken. You can walk right across the sea between them. One of the most unique natural phenomena in Thailand.

๐Ÿ’ก Insider tip: Time your trip with low tide for the sandbar walk โ€” most island-hopping tours plan around it. Wear water shoes for the warm shallows.
Poda Island
STOP 3
Island

Poda Island

A picture-perfect island with a long sweep of soft white sand, swaying palms and clear water. Less crowded than Phi Phi and just 30 minutes by longtail boat from Krabi. The perfect place to lay back and just exist.

๐Ÿ’ก Insider tip: Bring snacks and water โ€” there are limited facilities on the island. Snorkeling is best on the south side.
Hong Island
STOP 4
Island

Hong Island

Hidden inside this island is a stunning enclosed lagoon โ€” a 'hong' meaning 'room' in Thai โ€” accessed by swimming or kayaking through a narrow opening between the cliffs. Surreal turquoise water and vertical jungle walls.

๐Ÿ’ก Insider tip: Some tours include kayak rental โ€” the lagoon experience is way better than just looking at it from a beach.

Day 3

Emerald Pool
STOP 1
Nature

Emerald Pool

A natural hot spring-fed pool deep in the rainforest of Khao Phra Bang Khram Wildlife Sanctuary. The water shifts between emerald green and aquamarine blue depending on the light. Truly otherworldly โ€” like swimming in liquid jade.

๐Ÿ’ก Insider tip: Get there before 10am to beat tour buses. Continue further into the forest to find the Blue Pool โ€” even more stunning, but no swimming allowed there.
Tiger Cave Temple
STOP 2
Temple

Tiger Cave Temple

A stunning Buddhist temple set inside a limestone cave, with 1,237 steps climbing to a hilltop shrine that offers panoramic views over the Krabi region. The climb is brutal in the heat but the view at the top is unforgettable.

๐Ÿ’ก Insider tip: Start the climb early morning before it gets hot. Bring lots of water. Wear modest clothing โ€” shoulders and knees covered. Watch out for cheeky monkeys at the base!
